Toronto has won the bid to host the 2015 Pan Am Games and a ONE-BILLION-DOLLAR Pan American Village, designed to host 8,500 athletes is being built right next to The Distillery District.  The West Don Lands, west of Cherry Street, will comprise a complete 80-acre Athlete's Village.

The West Don Lands community is already planned and the Pan Am Games will accelerate its development.  The Pan American Village will feature eco-friendly buildings that meet LEED (Leadership in Energy  & Environmental Design) requirements, including high-quality townhouses, mid-rise buildings and towers.  One of the most exciting developments will be the 18 acre Don River Park with running and cycling trails.  Other proposed training facilities will include: an olympic-sized 50 metre outdoor swimming pool, a 400 metre track, basketball courts, a throwing and jumping area, a football pitch, and a recreation and fitness centre.  At the heart of the village will be a piazza for social events and casual gatherings.  There will also be office space, restaurants and a retail and commercial area.

The result of many years of planning, the award-winning Pan Am Village will be a lasting for everyone to enjoy.  Once the games are completed, $100 million will be spent to convert the residential units for athletes to permanent residential units.  The recreation and fitness centre will become the area's community centre.  When the transformation is complete, an underutilized industrial site will become the Cinderella of the waterfront: a treed, beautified, liveable community.
